About Preston S. (Steve) Parkerson
Preston S. Parkerson, 48, passed away Saturday, January 7, 2006. Born in Jacksonville, FL on May 16, 1957 to Lowell and Lataine Parkerson. Mr. Parkerson was the founder of Jacksonville Lymphedema Clinic. He was one of the first Lymphatic Therapists in Florida and established the Jacksonville Lymphedema Clinic with partners, the first Lymphedema Treatment Center of its kind in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia. He was a member of American Society of Clinical Pathologists, North American Vodder Association of Lymphatic Therapists and the Association of Bodywork and Massage Professionals. Preston Parkerson was also a significant supporter of the efforts of the LAF since its inception back in 1998, both financially and by presenting at events. Just last year he signed on to help establish the Patient Fund as the LAF Patient Fund Manager. As a result he has helped several patients directly and has assisted in housing and building an inventory of donated products and services. Preston enthusiastically supported the efforts of the Lymphedema Stakeholders to cancel the Medicare rulings that limited lymphedema treatment care to patients in need. A kind and generous man, Preston will be sorely missed by the Lymphatic Community and the Lymphedema Awareness Foundation. Survivors include his mother, Lataine Beauregard, five brothers, Bengie Parkerson, Troy Parkerson (Kathi), Lynn Meeks (Tiffany), Michael Parkerson and Billy Parkerson, three sisters, Janice Stutts (Kevin), Beverly Mixon and Kathy Morlan, close friends, Michael Powell, Holly Derossett, Linda Heinz, Choyea Reddish and Anthony Helms, seven nephews, B.J., Jeremy, Shane, Ridge, Grady, Andy, and Fletcher, eight nieces, Mandi, Shannon, Brooke, Breanna, Brandi, Mallory, Kelly, and Cassie, eleven great nieces and nephews. Katelynn, Dalton, Alexis, Austin, Madison, Troy, Kyler, Kayge, Kayci, Paige, and Cheiss. A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 11, 2006 at HARDAGE-GIDDENS FUNERAL HOME, 6940 Atlantic Boulevard. Family request in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Preston name to Donna Hicken Foundation or Lymphedema Awareness Foundation (LAF).
